Friday Reads 4/17/2026
If I were going to have any reading time this weekend, this is what I would read:

Golden In Death by J.D. Robb - I'm getting toward the juicy part in this one. I'm right at 70%. Dallas appears to have a pretty solid grasp on who the bad guys are, but she needs to get evidence to really nail it down. I will be doing quite a bit of driving this weekend, so I will most likely finish this one.

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin - I'm about 50 pages in, so I know that there is a woman with some kind of power. There was a massive earthquake or something similar that destroyed all the towns around hers, but there is a 20-mile radius around her town that was untouched. It's clear she has the powers. When the book begins, her husband has brutally murdered their son and disappeared with their daughter. He thinks the son was the one with powers. He did have them, but he wasn't the reason the town was spared. The woman believes he has also killed their daughter and wants to find him so she can ask where she is buried. I am at the point where she has convinced the governor to escort her out of the town gates so she can go find him. This has to be done because he has put the town on lockdown. That's all I got on this one.
When I finish the J.D. Robb, I will most likely move on to the previous one in the series. It's still going to be around 2 weeks before the 2nd one in the series is ready. Maybe I should check on that 3rd one and see how long that wait is. Oh, it's available. I'll just wait on that.
As for why I have little to no reading time this weekend... Tonight is nerd night. I eat. I nerd. I nerd on the phone. I go to bed. I work all day tomorrow, as usual. I will get some reading time after dinner, I hope, but usually my family wants to do a yapping session then. We'll see. Sunday morning, I'm ringing bells at a different church. The Festival Ringers' director needed 2 substitute ringers, and my friend from my church and TFR both volunteered. Then I have to get to work. I work from 1-5. Then I go straight to dance from 6-7ish. Usually, some of the kids sit around and yap afterwards. I eventually throw everyone out, but I don't mind hanging with them. Monday, I have a nail appointment. The exterminator is coming in the afternoon. Normally, I could read in the afternoon, but this week I'm going to have to be doing all the catch-up on the chores I didn't have time for previously. I might get some reading in after bell practice Monday night, but I'm not counting on it.
