Library Update 4/2026

I haven't done a library update in a hot minute because I didn't actually have anything to show. Now there's a little activity there, so I have something to post.

ON HOLD

Everyone in this Bank is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson - This is the next book in the series by Australian Stevenson. The main character is Ernest Cunningham. In the first book, he and his entire family get trapped at a ski resort during a blizzard, and a dead body turns up. Somebody killed him, and the family members are the only ones present. Also, they have all killed someone previously, under various conditions. In the sequel, he has to figure out who killed a major author on a train trip across Australia, which is also a writers' festival. And there is a Christmas story I think I've read, but now I can't remember.

Glory in Death by J.D. Robb - This is book 2 in the In Death series. It says I still have about 2 weeks to wait for it to be available.

Vinland Saga by Makoto Yukimura - I saw this on a YouTube video and thought I'd see if the library has it. They do. It's a graphic novel, so it should read quickly and I can see if it's worth my time.

Recently, a member of my family was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. As an adult. Apparently, that is a thing COVID can do, if you have the genes for it. The doc has recommended a low-carb diet. So the following are all books I have on hold to find recipes we can make to meet those dietary needs. The actual low-carb books were sub-optimal, and a friend of mine said her Type 1 ex-husband found a Keto diet worked best for him, so here we are.

**Southern Keto: 100+ Traditional Food Favorites for a Low-Carb Lifestyle" by Natasha Newton

Quick Keto: Meals in 40 Minutes or Less by Martina Slajerova - We like fast dinners.

The Everything Easy High-Protein, Low-Carb Cookbook by Michelle Fagone

Protein Packed: 125 Low-Carb High-Protein Recipes to Build Strength, Health, and Longevity by Annie Lampella

CHECKED OUT

Vendetta In death by J.D. Robb - This is the current audiobook. We have a woman killing men who cheat on their wives and/or use date rape drugs or whatever other ugly behavior she decides.

The Dirty, Lazy Keto Dirt Cheap Cookbook by Stephanie Laska, MEd. and William Laska - Lazy and cheap? Sign me up.

Easy Keto Meal Prep by Aaron Day - I do not fare well with meal prep. I have friends who spend hours every Sunday cooking meals, so all they have to do all week is heat it up. I like the easy weeknight idea, but man that is not what I want to spend my Sunday afternoons doing. And I frequently don't have that kind of time to do it. However, I live under the delusion that one day I will have my shit together and be able to stand being in my kitchen that long messing with food. ew.

Keto Lunches by Stephanie Peterson - In the same vein, I hate dealing with lunches. I tend to just toss something in the box and hope I feel like eating it later. I will most likely not be meal prepping lunch either.

The Keto Reset Diet Cookbook by Mark Sisson - I have no idea what the reset diet is about, but I liked the look of that meat on the cover.

Low Carb Yum 5-Ingredient Keto by Lisa MarcAurele - I look for four things in a recipe: easy, fast, cheap, and small. 5-Ingredients fills that last qualification. It also promises easy, although I have found that that is a relative term.

Quick and Healthy Keto Zone Cookbook by Don Colbert, MD - The problem with "healthy" is it usually means they have a lot of seafood. Fish is ok, but they love to fill their cookbooks with shrimp recipes. Fully 50% of the people in my house have a known shellfish allergy, and another 25% refuse to take the risk. The Diabetic Nutritionist said the healthiest vegetable is the one you'll eat. We will be applying that to proteins, too.

Okay. That is the end of the list. I don't know about you, but after looking at all those cookbooks, I'm hungry!
