Friday Reads 4/24/2026

I am seriously at the One-Day-At-A-Time stage now. I had to look at the computer to be sure of the date. I have been at work every day this week so far, and I feel like that is a win.

This week, I discovered that when I am stressed, I go to the bookstore. This is moderately sub-optimal for my finances, but I'm not stress-eating, so that's a plus. I remind myself that it could be drugs. Buying books is cheaper than buying drugs. I assume. I figure the experience of a book lasts longer than the experience of any amount of drugs.

This weekend's planned experience:

Vendetta In Death by J.D. Robb - I may or may not finish this over the weekend. I'm 60% through, but I am not sure how much driving I'm doing. I won't have much driving time Sunday, unless I get called into work, which could happen as I'm on call. Monday I have short trips around town to do until the evening when I have to go to Claremore for a concert. That trip could just finish this book off. I guess we'll see.

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin - This has a good chance at being polished off this weekend, as I'm about 70% through it. It's like a YA novel in its readability. Not that the plot or content or writing is like a YA novel, but that the physical book feels like a YA novel. It's the right size, the paper feels the same, and the kerning and line spacing of the print are comparable to YA paperbacks. All this is to say that I can sit down and read 50 pages pretty quickly. I'll take it with me to church on Sunday and read it between performances.

This is terrible. I honestly have no idea what I might pick up afterward. The possibilities seem endless. May starts next week, and I need to figure out a plan for that. It'll work itself out. It always does.
