Goodreads Update 4/29/2026

I haven't done a Goodreads Update in almost 3 months because I had only added a couple of books. That has finally changed and I have enough books on my to-read shelf to give you an update.

We Do Not Part by Han Kang - I liked the book by Han Kang that won the Booker Prize, so I'm interested in this one. A woman is called to her friend's hospital bedside. The friend was injured in an accident and asks her to go to Jeju Island and get her pet bird. What could go wrong? Well, considering how weird the last book was, I'd say a lot could go wrong.

The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny - This is number 5 in the Armand Gamache series. I had a day off so I took myself to Gardner's Used Books where I have an unGodly amount of credit. I usually look to see what number in the series I'm up to in the reading of the series, as well as which ones I have on my shelf waiting to be read. I usually pick up one or two that are close to where I am in the series.

Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny - And here we have number six. I have read the first 3 and I own number 4, so purchasing 5 and 6 just makes sense.

The Beautiful Mysetery by Louise Penny - And this is number eight. My only excuse for getting this one is the gorgeous cover.

China by Edward Rutherfurd - I've kind of been jonesing for another Edward Rutherfurd book. I love these dumb things. They are over the top dramatic and a little ridiculous, but I love the way the family saga is set against the development of the land/city. I also picked this up at Gardner's.

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang - I picked this up on a Nerd Nite outing. My nerd date had bought the second and third ones on a former NN and she vehemently supported my purchase of this one. I've heard it's great, but also very gruesome, being about war.

Half City by Kate Golden - I got this on the same Nerd Nite. I had seen some good things on Youtube from people who read it.

Do Admit: The Mitford Sisters and Me by Mimi Pond - This came out last September and I found it in a New York Times Book Review. Of course I put it directly in the list, because of my Mitford Sisters interest. Also, it's by Drawn & Quarterly, so that's a plus.

Troublemaker: The Fierce, Unruly Life of Jessica Mitford by Carla Kaplan - And here we have another Mitford book. Fall 2025 was apparently the Mitford season.

Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarzuk - Apparently, when I am stressed I buy books. I decided I wanted to get this book and went to B&N on my way to work one Sunday. I couldn't find it on the shelf, so I asked the customer service desk. The clerk said the had one copy and went off to look for it. She looked a couple of places and then roped in another bookseller. There were at least 3 booksellers looking for this dumb book. We finally gave up and I just ordered a copy. An hour later she called me. The found the book in the game section on top of a stack of games. I went the next day and picked it up. I hope it's worth all that effort!

So there you have it. All the books I've added to my TBR since February 3.
