Friday Reads on Saturday 5/16

So it is currently 4:45 in the morning. It's officially Saturday, but since I slept a total of 2.5 hours before getting sick, it still feels like Friday. Let's talk about something more pleasant: books!

IQ by Joe Ide - I officially abandoned The School for Good Mothers. I looked at my list of books by AAPI authors and everything seemed so heavy. I spotted this on the shelf and I decided to see if Joe Ide was an Asian name or a Nigerian name. It turns out it's Japanese! Hooray! This is a mystery about a (probably autistic) man in South Central L.A. who solves mysteries with his giant brain. It's light-ish and funny and just what I needed. Joe Ide is the child of Japanese immigrants who was raised in South Central L.A. He tried so hard to be like all the cool kids. So he wrote about a black man who is like him on the inside.

Immortal In Death by J.D. Robb - Hallelujah! My audiobook hold for the third book in the series came in. I am now 25% of the way through it, so I don't think it will take too long.

The Accidental Law Librarian by Anthony Aycock - Since I am now in charge of all things legal as well as governmental, at the library, I decided I should figure out how to do that. I won't need all of the information here, but I could see how knowing how to do some research might be helpful. I got this through ILL, but I'm going to buy myself a copy.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - I was looking at the r/Fantasy Bingo spread the other day. There is one square for Middle Grade Novel. I don't typically care for Middle Grade books, but I decided to do some research on what my options might be. I found this. I decided to give it a shot and ordered a copy from the library. I'm really enjoying it so far!

London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe - When I finish the J.D. Robb, I'll go back to this one. I'll probably be waiting for the next Robb, so it works out.

It looks like I will have extra reading time this weekend, since apparently I'm not working today. I really hope I can get to the quincenera tonight. Tomorrow, the bells ring in church AND the dancers are dancing. I do NOT have time to be sick. Monday I have a singular appointment, so I can hopefully read and relax then.

So that's the current state of my reading life.
