Friday Reads 5/22/2026

I don't know why I bother with these posts. Literally nothing has changed. Oh well.

Immortal in Death by J.D. Robb - I am 80% through this one, so I will definitely be finishing it up this weekend. This is the last audiobook the library has in the series. I guess if I want to keep reading them, I'll have to use my eyeballs.

IQ by Joe Ide - I'm about halfway through this one. The narration jumps back and forth between 2013 and 2005. In the 2005 timeline, a 17 year old Isaiah just lost his brother to a hit and run. He's determined to find out who it was. In 2013, he is a well-known private detective in the ghetto who is trying to figure out who tried to kill a famous rapper using a dog. A very large, very well-trained dog.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones - This is super fun. Sophie gets turned into an old woman by the Wicked Witch of the Waste. She finds Howl's castle that moves around the country and makes herself the housekeeper. All the bizarre spells that are used, and the chaos they create, are pretty funny. I'm invested to see how Sophie gets turned back into a young woman.

The Accidental Law Librarian by Anthony Aycock - I'm clearly reading this for work. It isn't as horrendously boring as I expected. I'm learning a lot about how to research case law. Not that I will be able to use it, but it's a thing to know.

London Falling by Patrick Radden Keefe - Once I finish the J.D. Robb audio, I'll go back to this one. I still remember what was happening.

My weekend is pretty nonexistent this week. I work Saturday, of course. I don't have plans on Saturday evening, so yay. But I work on Sunday, which means I will need to do my Sunday chores on Saturday night. I am pretty sure we have dance Sunday. Maybe not, since it's a holiday weekend. We'll see. I have an appointment on Monday (yes, on Memorial Day) and then we are going to our friends' house to play games. But since Monday is a holiday, I actually get Tuesday off, too! I have a phone appointment in the morning, but then it's clear sailing. My kid wants to go to Spavinaw, but we'll have to see how the weather is. We are having lots of rain right now.

So there you have it. I get a two-day weekend, but there isn't much reading time involved there. I'm trying not to be annoyed by it, but honestly, when I have reading time, I frequently end up napping instead.
