Friday Reads 6/12/2026

So Okay. It's Friday. Here we go. If I get a chance to read, here's what's happening.

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas - Last night I went to a dance showcase. When I got home, I sat down with this book to read. My family immediately swarmed me with tales from their day, entreaties to look at the cute dogs, etc. I managed to read a whole chapter before I had to get ready for bed. I am about 2/3 of the way through it.

Life After Death by Damien Echols - I am about 2/3 through this one as well. I haven't had a chance to pick it up in a few days. I don't hold out much hope of finishing it anytime soon.

Read This to Look Cool: Essays and Overthinkings by Maeve Dunigan - This is like if Jenny Lawson had a Millennial sister. It's funny and bizarre. She talks about all the weird things she did and thought as a kid, and it's hilarious and also familiar. I was a weird kid, too. This is an audiobook, and it is read by the author.

The King's Ransom by Janet Evanovich - I'm still waiting for the next Stephanie Plum book, so I got this back out of the library. I'm almost halfway through it. I read it during lunch at work. Maybe if I want to get through my books, I should bring them to read at lunch. More uninterrupted reading time. That seems counterintuitive.

I might get a little reading time tonight. Tomorrow night is game night, so no reading at all then. My best chance for reading unmolested is Sunday morning. Half the family is at work, and a quarter are asleep. That leaves me and my books. I tend to try to get chores done during that time, but if I prioritize reading, I can hopefully do chores later. Monday I have a beauty day. First nails, then hair. I'll get home around time to make dinner. Maybe some reading time after dinner.

It's not a free-time heavy weekend, but maybe I can power through a book.
