Friday Reads on Saturday 6/20/26

Well this week got away from me. I had the day off yesterday, and could not wrap my head around the fact that it was Friday. So here we are with a Friday reads on Saturday. Same difference. It's fine.

OUT

The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Vol. 1 by Beth Brower - Surprise! This one is already out and you didn't even know it was in. This book has just over 100 pages and I read it in two sittings yesterday. It is delightful. I am looking forward to the other volumes, of which there are 8 total.

Exhalation by Ted Chiang - I read two of these stories and decided I didn't care. The third story was over 100 pages long, and I just didn't even want to go there. This one is officially DNF'ed.

CONTINUING

The King's Ransom by Janet Evanovich - I fully intend to finish this one today. We have been to 3 continents and I have about 20% left. I'm enjoying it.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss - I have made it to the 10% mark in this one. That amounts to about 75 pages. It's a slightly larger trade paperback and there are a lot of words on the page. Small margins. It's very good, but I find I need something lighter to cut the tension and read in between. That's why I picked up Emma M. Lion.

IN

I don't know what's going to be that palate cleanser next. I'm thinking perhaps:

Red, White, & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston - This is a romance that probably reads pretty quickly despite it's large page count. There are only 10 days left in the month, and I'm not sure how many more books I will be able to squeeze in.

Weekend reading plans: Well, I don't have game night tonight, so I will hopefully get some reading in. Tomorrow is Father's Day. I think the husbandface has to work at the church, but after that we can celebrate. I do plan to get some reading done, though. My kid has to get ready for surgery starting tomorrow, so there may be some laundry happening. I have one appointment on Monday. Here's to lots of reading then.
