Friday Reads 7/3/2026
Guess who has two thumbs and a 3-day weekend? This girl! Which is immediately negated by the fact that I have to work next Sunday, therefore only getting one day next weekend. Ew. Not much has changed since Tuesday, but let's review.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss - I haven't actually picked this up in days, but hopefully this weekend I'll have extra time. This week was kind of brutal. Everything that could go wrong on Wednesday, did. I was in bed at 7:30 that night. No reading at home. Thursday was better, but I still couldn't be arsed to pick up a book.

The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo - I actually read a few pages from this the other night while dinner was cooking. Not much. I'm nearing the halfway mark on this one.

Just Plain Filthy: The Story Behind Book Banning's Trial of the Century by Anthony Aycock - I forgot to tell you about this on Tuesday. I think I started listening to this Tuesday morning. Anthony Aycock wrote the Accidental Law Librarian book I read last month. This is a new book about a 1976 book-banning trial, but also the history of book-banning in America. Fun fact: this book quotes Book Banning in 21st Century America by Emily Knox. Well, it quotes the 2014 version. Last year I bought the revised version that came out in November. Emily Knox was the Past President of Beta Phi Mu the year I was the President-Elect. I thought she was really smart and a great President and Past-President. Since then, I have seen her name in a bunch of places. She's kind of a big deal. I am listening to this on audiobook, which is likely how I forgot to tell you about it.

Everyone in this Bank is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson - This is my work reading book. It was ready for me when I came in on Tuesday after my 5-day weekend. So, I started it at lunch. I also took it with me to the doctor's office yesterday. I'm almost 30% through it. It reads pretty quickly. It's not going home with me this weekend, but if I haven't finished it before my one day of the weekend next weekend, I'll take it home and finish it up.
This weekend looks promising. I will probably do laundry tomorrow and do as little as possible. I have been invited to a friend's cookout tomorrow, so I'll probably do that for a couple of hours. Mostly, we need to monitor the dogs. Make sure they are appropriately medicated so as to not be entirely shattered by the fireworks. It gets worse the older they get. They are pretty old. I don't really have a plan for Sunday. More chores. More resting. Monday I have a biopsy and that is pretty much the only thing on my calendar. Biopsy and rest. If I don't take a bunch of naps all weekend, I might get some reading done.
That's my weekend sorted. What are you doing?
