Friday Reads on Saturday 7/11/2026

Yesterday, I couldn't get my computer to navigate to the part of this website where I could write a post. It worked today. I'm not sure if it's the computer at home, or they got the site fixed. I'm at work today, so who knows. Anyway, let's talk about what I'm reading this non-weekend. I say that because I work today and tomorrow.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss - I know you're as tired of looking at this as I am of reading it. It's very good, and the plot moves along quickly. You know what isn't quick? Each of the 700 pages. There are about a zillion words on each page and the stretch nearly edge to edge and top to bottom. I still have 200 pages left. It doesn't feel like a lot in my right hand while I'm reading, but if I look at the page numbers I get discouraged.

The Night Tiger by Yangsze Choo - I probably have not picked this up in a week. I decided to focus on the Name of the Wind to try to actually finish it. I know that when I can concentrate on this one, it will fly by. I just can't do it while the other book sits there and looks at me. I'm still at the 43% mark on this one.

Everyone In This Bank is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson - I haven't been at work for lunch since Wednesday, so I haven't finished it yet. It's due on Thursday and a bunch of people are waiting for it. I'll take it home tonight and see if I can finish it up by Tuesday. So far, it's just as good as the other ones.

The Second Sleep by Robert Harris - This is my current audiobook. I liked Conclave by Harris last year, so when I found this in my audiobook app, I thought I'd give it a shot. The title refers to the way humans used to sleep in two shifts. They would sleep for a few hours, get up and do housework or chores or whatever, then go back to sleep for a few hours. These shifts were called first sleep and second sleep. We are following a priest who was sent out to a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere to provide funeral services for the priest there who died. I'm pretty sure he stumbles across some nefarious plot or deed, and will have to solve the mystery.

Monday is my only day off this weekend, and I have 3 appointments. My nails, the exterminator, and the dentist. I also need to get all my chores done that I usually do on Sundays. Not a lot of reading time, but a girl can dream.
