HRCYED Part 2.
Alrighty. Let's keep working on this insane, massive, ridiculous reading challenge I've taken on.
ROW 3 CONTINUED
NUMERICAL TITLES: Read books with numbers in the title. Like "One Dark Window" or "Ten Big Ones". It can't be the number of the book in the series. It has to be in the title. This calls for 11 books total. The numbers 1-10 plus one more that can be any other number. This is actually kind of difficult.
A RAINBOW OF WORDS: For this one, you have to find books with color words in the title. Only, it's looking for specific colors. To wit: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, White, Black, Silver, Gold. It had that ROY G BIV thing going on and then it jumped the shark. This is also 11 books. And good luck finding a book with Purple in the title.
ROW 4
ANIMAL FAMILIES: For this one, "families" refers to the official animal classification system. The animal must be represented on the cover. It doesn't have to be a big part of the story, just on the cover. I have entered 2 books for this prompt already. I used The Second Sleep for equine (my copy has a horse on the cover) and Freaky in Fresno for canine. I have a bunch of books with birds on the cover, so that will be good. And I have a book called "100 Animals That Will F*cking End You" which has a bunch of different animals on the cover. This one requires 6 books to complete it.
BIOMES: This one is looking for pictures of various kinds of landscapes on the cover. Things like Desert, Forest, Plains, Mountains, Coast. This is not as difficult as I thought it would be. This also requires 6 books to finish.
RE-RE-REMIX: Read 5 books that are twisted retellings of books you've already read. So like "The Other Bennet Sister" that makes Mary Bennet the main character. I have so many Pride and Prejudice retellings, it's not even funny. But I have retellings of more than that. I shouldn't have any trouble finishing this prompt unless I can't finish a book for being really bad. DNFs don't count.
FOOD PYRAMID: This one requires pictures of food on the cover. But not the same food. Five different kinds of food. I currently have Break Room for Dairy because it has a big wedge of cheese on the cover. Past that, I guess I don't read a lot of books with food on the cover. This might take some work.
MOTHER NATURE: I already read all my tornado books! The creator of the challenge is really into dramatic weather, so she wants six books with various types of weather on the cover. And "sunny" only counts if the actual sun is depicted on the cover. I have a couple of books with snow on the cover. A bunch of cloudy and foggy covers. I'm not sure what else... I might have something depicting wind? Six books, huh? Hrmm.
ROW 5
IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY: Ok this one is really hard. You have to read a book for each of the following for your birth month/year. It can be on the cover, or in the title. If you get really stumped it can be some other representation.
Birthstone - Topaz or Citrine - Non of the books with topaz in the title sound good; they are all either romance or urban fiction.
A Book Published in Your Birth Month (any year) - This one isn't so difficult. November is usually a decent publishing month.
Your Zodiac Sign - I am a scorpio. Luckily that "100 Animals That Can F*cking End You" has a scorpion on the cover. Lucked out on that one.
Your Chinese Zodiac Sign - I am the year of the ox. Yeah. Someone in the Discord server for this challenge said she would be reading a book set in Oxford for this one. Genius! I have several of those.
Your Birth Flower - I am really struggling with this one. Chrysanthemum or Peony. I cannot tell the difference between a Chrysanthemum and a Carnation when it comes to pictures on a cover. I feel like peony would be easier to find, but so far, I haven't had any luck. This is going to take some research.
Your Birth Tree - I didn't know this was a thing. Apparently, the November birth tree is an Elder. It looks like every other tree. I could go with the word Elder in the title, I guess. Or maybe the series name? This could also take some work.
The Meaning of Your Name - My name officiallyy means "from Hadria" a region in Northern Italy. Hilariously it has been translated to "the dark one" over the centuries. The good news is, I have lots of books with dark covers and/or the word dark in the title.
BACKLIST AUTHORS: This will be easy enough. You have to read 5 backlist books from your favorite authors. At this point, a not insignificant portion of my shelves are backlist. I can get moving on some of those series I've been working on.
I MUST ENDEAVOR TO ACQUIRE THESE CREATURES: Yeah, this is pretty clunky for a challenge title. It's because she can't just use the Pokemon tagline, which is "Gotta catch 'em all." For this one, you have to read books that somehow relate to the different types of Pokemon. Which are: Bug, Electric, Fire, Grass, Dark, Fairy, Flying, Normal, Dragon, Fighting, Ghost, Rock, Ground, Poison, Steel, Ice, Psychic, Water. It doesn't have to be on the cover. The book just has to relate to these types in some way. I used Immortal Game for a Fairy type Pokemon because most of the characters are fairies. At first I thought this was going to be difficult because I am not well-versed in Pokemon. Then, I remembered that I have two kids who are VERY into Pokemon. Problem solved. Five books required for this one.
SECOND CHANCES AND HIDDEN GEMS: I'm not really looking forward to this one. If I'm smart, I'll spread it out over the whole year so I don't put myself in a reading slump. For this one you have to read a book that either you DNFed or you really don't think is for you. It could be a book someone gave you, or a book you bough a long time ago, but now you don't think is for you anymore. A book with an ugly cover or a book with a low Goodreads rating. I gotta read five of these to complete the prompt. Oy! On the other hand, my neighbor is an author and his books don't have a ton of ratings on Goodreads. There's an idea. I have at least 3 of those.
And there we have it! That's all 25 challenges!
In total, you have to read at least 75 books to complete all 150 prompts. I can do 75. 150 not so much. This will be interesting.
If you have any ideas for these, I'd love to hear them.
