Reading In/Out 9/9/2026
Yo. I am soooo behind. I was off work yesterday, and I didn't even turn on my desk computer for 2 days. I can no longer access this website on my laptop because it is 7 years old. Google no longer makes updates to that device, so there are a few websites I am not up to date enough to access. I'm going to have to save up for a new Chromebook.
But anyway, I did finish a book and start a new one!

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye - I finished this one on Sunday. When I talked about this book before, I mentioned that it had a lot in common with The Night Circus. That pretty much continued throughout the book. We have two magicians who have been trained in magic with the express intent to win a competition. In this one, the competition is to become the Court Enchanter. One wins. The other dies. Of course, they fall in love. It wasn't as beautifully written as The Night Circus, and it is definitely a YA book, but it wasn't awful. I won't be reading the rest of the series.

Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - I finally started it! And let me tell you, the beginning starts off in the midst of chaos. The Villain is in the emperor's dungeon. Evie Sage (the apprentice of the title) is dead. The emperor is planning to set a series of events in motion to fulfill a prophecy that will bring about the end of the nation. After a daring escape, all the Villainous employees (including the Villain and Evie) make it back to their castle in the woods. Now they are plotting to stop the emperor's evil plans. It's a lot of fun, but that beginning was kind of stressful.
My schedule this week is kind of wacky. I am planning to read it at lunch, and I hope to read at home tonight. Thursday, I'm working til 9:00, so only lunchtime reading can happen. Friday doesn't usually allow for reading other than lunch.
Also, this book is pretty tall, so there are more than the usual number of words on the page. It reads quickly, but it still takes a little longer because there are just so many words.
