Reading In/Out 9/15/2026

The Ides of September. Nope doesn't mean a thing. Anyway, let's talk about what reading occurred over the weekend.

Apprentice to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer - I might have read 20 pages of this over the weekend. I just didn't have the energy. This book drops you into full action in the first chapter and does not really let up. Just when you think it's about to calm the heck down, something else screwball happens, and we're off again. It is kind of exhausting. I mean, it's hilarious, but also exhausting.

Back on the Rez: Finding the Way Home by Brian Maracle - I finally started an audiobook. This was originally published in 1997. I'm not really sure what has prompted a re-release, but here we are. It's about a Mohawk man who moves back to his reserve in Canada after 28 years. He learns the language and lives in a log house he has to fix by hand. It was 1992 when he moved there, so he talks about things he doesn't have that he misses. He doesn't have internet, which, honestly, neither did I in 1992. He has to go into town to get a newspaper. He has to go 200 yards to pick up his mail. It's fascinating. I'm a third of the way through this one already.

Humble Pi: A Comedy of Maths Errors by Matt Parker - This just came in for me at the library. I couldn't help it. When that BookTuber reviewed it, I needed it immediately. I'm starting it at lunch today.

So there you go. I'm up to 3 books again. All is right with the world.
